The new iPhone 16 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max variant boasts the largest iPhone screen to date at 6.9 inches. Both models come with very narrow bezels to enhance the viewing experience, although this also increases the risk of damage. The devices are framed with titanium and have a sandblasted surface.

The new series offers color options including Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and a bronze shade.

The heart of the devices is the A18 Pro chip, which promises improved performance and efficiency over its predecessor. It features a 16-core neural engine with increased memory bandwidth, designed to handle AI tasks quickly. The graphics performance is also enhanced, with the new 6-core graphics processor delivering up to 20 percent faster performance than last year’s A17 Pro.

New camera system and new camera control

The camera system has been updated with a new 48-megapixel main camera, which is expected to perform well in low-light conditions. For the first time, the ultra-wide-angle camera also includes a 48-megapixel sensor with autofocus capabilities. Additionally, the 5x zoom feature from the iPhone 15 Pro Max is now available on the iPhone 16 Pro.

A notable change across the entire iPhone 16 series is the new camera control button. It features pressure and swipe detection, providing haptic feedback and allowing users to control various functions within the camera app. The button enables users to start the camera, take photos or videos, and supports touch gestures for quick access to camera settings and functions.

The new devices also support 4K120 video recording in HDR, allowing for high-resolution slow-motion recordings.

Apple also introduced Visual Intelligence with iOS 18, an AI-powered feature exclusive to the iPhone 16 series. This feature allows users to point their camera at objects or scenes to access contextual information and perform related actions, potentially making daily tasks more efficient.

Additionally, audio capabilities have been enhanced, with the iPhone 16 Pro now supporting spatial audio recording during video capture.

The iPhone 16 Pro will start at $999 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will begin at $1,199 for the 256GB version. Pre-orders will begin on September 13, 2024, with official sales starting on September 20.

For the 1 terabyte model, the iPhone 16 Pro is priced from €1,199 to €1,949, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at €1,449, with the 1 terabyte variant also costing €1,949.
