Nintendo Launches New Collection of NES Games for Switch

Fans who love speedrunning, which means finishing games as quickly as possible, will be happy to hear that Nintendo has released a new collection for the Switch. It’s all about games where you can achieve great feats in a short time.

Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Called “Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition!”, this new collection includes 13 games from the NES era. These games are classics like Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Kid Icarus, the first three Super Mario Bros., Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda. Each game has a special online mode where you can complete challenges really fast. You can also upload your achievements to a global ranking on the Switch Online platform.

The collection’s name is a nod to a competition Nintendo held in the early 1990s called the “Nintendo World Championships”. This competition was a big deal back then.

Taking inspiration from the NES Remix! collection, Nintendo World Championships adds new features to famous classic games. This makes them more fun to replay. Nintendo hasn’t explained exactly what these new features are, but judging from past experiences, expect a variety of challenges. These challenges will test your speedrunning skills, from simply finishing the game quickly to defeating bosses using only certain items.

Nintendo World Championships will also have a deluxe edition. This version includes the physical collection, five collectible pins, 13 commemorative cards from the games, and a replica (not playable, of course) of the famous golden cartridge from the 1990 edition of the original competition.

Both the digital and deluxe versions of the collection will be available on July 18, 2024. The digital version will cost $29.99, while the deluxe version will cost $59.99.
