Extreme G: A Reference in Futuristic Racing

Released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64, Extreme G is a retro game that features frantic races on futuristic motorcycles equipped with a high-tech arsenal. Players compete in three-round competitions and have the ability to use up to three nitro boosts per run. Devastating power-ups also dot the circuits, offering a significant strategic advantage for those who know how to use them wisely.

Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls: A Playful UFO

Less known than Extreme G, Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls nonetheless remains a memorable game for its atypical gameplay. In this title released in 1998, players embody members of Iggy’s gang. They must climb towers using a grappling hook while avoiding traps set by the inhabitants of Cho-Dama. Mastery of the grappling hook combined with judicious use of power-ups scattered throughout the levels is essential to reaching the top before your opponents.

The arrival of Extreme G and Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls on Nintendo Switch Online represents only part of the additions made by Nintendo this month. You should know that last week, three new Super Nintendo games also appeared, including a little-known classic from the Mario series. This is Wrecking Crew ’98. Initially released only in Japan, this puzzle game featuring the famous plumber finally has the opportunity to shine with a Western audience.

An Ever-Expanding Retro Catalogue

With these two new Nintendo 64 games, the Nintendo Switch Online service confirms its status as an essential destination for fans of retro games. In addition to NES and Super Nintendo classics, subscribers can now enjoy a growing selection of N64 titles, including essentials like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, without forgetting more confidential nuggets like Extreme G and Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls.

Nintendo is thus continuing its policy of regularly enriching its Nintendo Switch Online offering, providing players the opportunity to (re)discover entire sections of the video game history of the Japanese firm. With these two additions, fans of racing games have plenty to keep them busy while waiting for new surprises in the months to come.
