Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 offer a clinical‑grade hearing aid feature powered by the H2 chip and advanced audio algorithms that boost clarity for listeners with mild to moderate hearing loss. The hearing health test in the same firmware update measures the hearing capacity of a user across some key frequencies. These tools were introduced in September 2024; however, different markets had to individually approve these tools so that the release was not simultaneous worldwide.

Newly Supported Countries for Hearing Test and Aid

In mid‑July 2025, Apple expanded the hearing test and hearing aid functions to 13 additional countries and territories. Residents of Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Moldova, the Palestinian Territories, Serbia, Taiwan, Thailand, Ukraine, and Vietnam can now run the five‑minute pure‑tone audiometry test in the Health app and, if indicated, enable the Hearing Aid feature directly through device settings.

Existing Hearing Protection and Early Rollouts

Prior to this expansion, users in markets such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and several European nations gained access to the hearing health test, the Hearing Aid feature, and Loud Sound Reduction protections. Apple’s Loud Sound Reduction silences environmental noise above 80 decibels by dynamically adjusting audio, helping protect against long‑term hearing damage.

How the Hearing Aid Feature Works

After completing the Hearing Test or importing an audiogram from a qualified provider, AirPods Pro 2 automatically tailor amplification, tone balance, and noise suppression to each ear’s hearing profile. Users may fine‑tune settings on the fly and can even share their personalized audiogram with healthcare professionals while keeping all data private.

Impact on Hearing Health Awareness

The World Health Organization estimates that 1.5 billion individuals to experience hearing impairment in the modern world, which is expected to surge to 2.5 billion by 2050. Integrating clinical-grade technology in a product of the mass market, Apple aims to reduce early detection and intervention barriers. Research connects hearing problems that are left untreated to cognitive decline and a likelihood of developing dementia, thus regular testing and protection are critical.

The additional availability of AirPods Pro 2 hearing capabilities is set to benefit millions of other customers as the tech giant awaits regulatory approval of its products across global markets. Apple promotes the idea of focusing on health technologies development, turning the wireless earbuds into a multi-purpose audio gadget and an assistive-hearing device.
