The debut of the new Macs with M4 chips is coming soon, and Apple has finally shared when they will be announced. Contrary to earlier beliefs, Apple will not hold a special event to present the new hardware.

Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, Greg Joswiak, announced on X (Twitter) that there will be “an exciting week of announcements” starting next Monday morning. The post mentioned Macs directly, both in the tweet and in the short video that accompanied it.

There are no details yet on the order of the announcements. It is confirmed that updates to the stable versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 will be released next Monday. However, Joswiak’s statements suggest that the first Mac with the M4 chip could be announced on the same day. We’ll see if that happens.

Rumors have been spreading for some time that Apple would launch the new M4 Macs in the last days of October. It was surprising that the company had not announced a special event for them, as it usually does. With the promise of “a week of announcements,” it seems there will be multiple launches spread over different days to build more excitement. It will be interesting to see if all of them are related to hardware or not.

What do we expect from the announcement of the M4 Macs?

The M4 chip will make its way to Macs after debuting this year in the iPad Pro, and it is expected to appear in three models:

  1. Mac mini: This model is rumored to be the highlight of the announcement, not just because of the M4 chip. According to Mark Gurman, it will feature a new design and be much smaller than the current version, making it closer in size to an Apple TV. It is expected to come in versions with both the M4 and M4 Pro chips.
  2. MacBook Pro: The design of the MacBook Pro models will likely remain similar to the latest generations, available in both 14-inch and 16-inch versions. The smaller model might start with 16 GB of RAM. It is speculated that the base version of the M4 will include a CPU and GPU with 10 cores each, up from 8 and 10 cores (respectively) in the M3. There will also be options with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips for both sizes.
  3. iMac: The first wave of new Macs with the M4 chip will also include the iMac. While there aren’t many rumors about this model, no changes in size or design are expected; it will remain at 24 inches. The iMac is anticipated to feature the standard version of Apple’s new chip and will increase to 16 GB of unified memory in its entry-level variant, up from the previous 8 GB.

The M4 Mac lineup is expected to expand in 2025. As mentioned yesterday, the MacBook Air with the latest generation of Apple Silicon could debut between January and March. Updated versions of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are also anticipated, with their release expected in the middle and end of next year, respectively.

Since the logo that Joswiak shared features the glow and colors of the new Siri, which we saw in the invitation for the iPhone 16 event, it wouldn’t be surprising if part of next week’s announcements focuses on the capabilities of Apple’s AI and its integration with macOS.
