One of the most talked-about news stories yesterday was the inclusion of advertising within PS5 game titles. Instead of showing the game’s art or ongoing activities, some games started displaying ads, even featuring news from previous years. The community reacted strongly, fearing that the PS5 would suddenly become an advertising platform.

Sony has now denied this claim, confirming that it was a news feed error. They clarified that they do not plan to replace game art with advertising content, YouTube videos, or similar ads. While some games have historically included ads related to the game, such as Call of Duty’s Blackcell or FC24’s Ultimate, this has never been so intrusive and has usually been limited to events like DLC launches, new seasons, or store content updates.
Typically, if a game is compatible with PS5 cards, the dashboard will show content related to the game activity you left pending the last time you played. This is why the inclusion of such advertisements generated a lot of buzz in the community, especially since Xbox in some regions displays fast food ads, which are also linked to game promotions.
This was a mistake, and your PS5 should now display the content correctly.
This is what the PS5 dashboard looked like after the error:
However, as mentioned, Sony has confirmed that this was a mistake, and the game dashboard should now display in a completely traditional way, without this type of advertising content or unrelated game content.
A technical issue with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has been fixed. There have been no changes to how game news is displayed on the PS5.
Additionally, if you live in a supported region, the new dashboard customization feature has been available for a few weeks, providing quick access to most console features from one place.
