Google Photos announced an update that completely redesigns the video editor. Users will now have more control over cropping, zooming, and changing the speed of their shots. The new version also includes AI-powered effects that will enhance the look of your videos.

The tech company confirmed the changes on its support website, stating that editing videos with Google Photos will be easier than ever. The app features a new user interface that displays editing commands in a carousel when you press the Edit button. This addition includes the most commonly used functions, such as cropping, muting, stabilizing, and exporting the frame.

Unlike the previous version, the update makes the icons larger and clearly labels each tool, so you don’t have to guess what they do. Additionally, the new Speed feature allows you to create dramatic slow-motion effects or increase the action in your shots. There’s also a button to enhance colors and stabilize videos with just one tap.

Google says it has integrated an updated trimming tool with better controls for adjusting footage. While the current trimming bar works well for short videos, it can be tricky for clips longer than 30 seconds or 1 minute. The new version promises greater precision, allowing you to cut out the exact moment you want and save it as a separate video.

Google Photos will use AI to enhance your videos.

Another addition to the app is new presets that automatically trim or enhance videos. These adjustments happen when you tap one of the tools and can change the lighting, control the speed, or zoom in on the subject. The artificial intelligence can also apply dynamic tracking if the subject is moving, allowing it to adjust the frame or slow down the action.

AI-powered presets are activated when you use the tools in the main carousel. These effects work independently from the filters and other advanced editing options available in different menus within the app. The new Google Photos user interface will be available on the Android app, while AI-powered adjustments will be applied to both the iOS and Android versions. The update is gradually rolling out starting today, so it may take some time to reach your country. The tech company did not mention whether iOS users will receive the new editing tools at a later date.
