The highly anticipated OxygenOS 15 update from OnePlus is just around the corner, with an expected release in late September or early October. This Android 15-based update introduces a series of exciting changes, many of which are clearly inspired by Apple’s iOS. Key among these are a redesigned volume slider, a Dynamic Island-style notification system, and a split between the notification and Quick Settings panels. These new features aim to elevate the user experience, bringing a blend of iOS-like functionality to OnePlus devices.
With Android 15 still awaiting its stable rollout, some major OEMs are already giving us a sneak peek at what’s to come in their respective software skins. For instance, Samsung’s One UI 7 is rumored to incorporate its own take on Apple’s Dynamic Island, offering real-time updates even on the lock screen. Similarly, Samsung may follow Apple’s lead by splitting the Notification and Quick Settings panels. Google, too, is working on a similar split UI, although it’s expected to be introduced with Android 16 next year.
iOS-Like UI in OxygenOS 15
OxygenOS 15 seems to have borrowed heavily from Apple’s playbook. Beta testers from SmartPrix were the first to get hands-on with these new features, highlighting the new user interface elements. In this latest OxygenOS build, swiping down from the top right of the screen brings up the Quick Settings panel, while swiping down from the left reveals the Notification Shade—a feature that is reminiscent of iOS. Moreover, users will have the ability to customize the Quick Settings panel, rearranging the chips and even hiding the text under the icons, providing more flexibility than ever before. However, if users prefer the traditional layout, they can choose to retain the legacy UI.
Another notable addition is the redesigned volume slider, which operates similarly to iOS. When the volume button is pressed, the slider appears as a large UI element that shrinks if no touch input is detected, allowing users to adjust the volume quickly and intuitively. This change mirrors how volume controls work on iOS devices, offering a more seamless experience.
Dynamic Island-Like Notifications & Device Compatibility
One of the standout features coming with OxygenOS 15 is the Dynamic Island-like notification system. Positioned around the central punch-hole selfie camera, this system will likely support real-time updates and notifications, akin to iOS’s Live Activities. Additionally, OnePlus users can expect support for Live Photos, enabling them to capture short video clips alongside their photos, enhancing the overall photography experience on OnePlus devices.
