Analyst Ming Chi Kuo reports that Apple is still on track to launch a foldable iPhone in 2026 and a lighter Apple Vision Air headset in 2027. The report also says a foldable iPad could follow in 2028. These timelines come from Kuo supply chain checks and industry reporting.
Launch timing
Kuo writes that the iPhone Fold will move to production in 2026 and that Apple has raised internal shipment targets. The 2026 target range is now reported at 8 to 10 million units. Shipments for 2027 including second generation volumes are expected to rise toward 20 to 25 million units. The foldable iPad is forecast to ship in much smaller numbers in 2028.
The Vision Air is expected in 2027. Kuo says the Air will be lighter and more affordable than the Vision Pro. The analyst estimates a weight reduction of more than 40 percent and a substantially lower price point aimed at a wider audience. Industry reports say Apple hopes the Air will reach around one million units in 2027.
Supply details
A key supplier in the reports is General Interface Solution. GIS is said to handle backend processing for Ultra Thin Glass used in the iPhone Fold displays. GIS will work with Corning to cut treat and inspect UTG so panels meet Apple quality standards. UTG processing is delicate because the glass is thin and it is sensitive to edge cracks and particles.
Kuo also names GIS as a supplier of pancake lenses for a lighter Vision Air design. Those lenses help keep the headset compact and reduce weight. The shift to new lens suppliers and refined UTG handling is why Apple can push for both foldable phones and a lighter headset on a tight schedule.
