The InFocus ScreenPlay SP1080 is a home cinema Full HD DLP video projector. It boasts 3,500 lumens (3,000 in eco mode) brightness and a 25,000:1 contrast ratio. This model, priced at around $549, stands out with its impressive bulb lifespan of 10,000 hours in eco mode and 5,000 hours in normal mode.

Technical Specifications of InFocus ScreenPlay SP1080

2D Image Quality

Equipped with a 1.2x optical zoom, the InFocus SP1080 projects an image ranging from 1.76m to 2.14m at a 3m distance. However, color accuracy falls short with an average Delta E of 6.7. The gamma handling is also subpar, resulting in overexposed whites.

Furthermore, the “Warmer” temperature setting yields an average of 7,470 K, deviating from the 6,500 K reference. Contrast performance is weak, measuring 0.15 cd/m² for black and 91 cd/m² for maximum brightness, resulting in a contrast of less than 610:1.

In comparison, leading projectors achieve higher contrast ratios, with the BenQ W1070+ at 1,300:1 and the Sony VPL-HW40ES at an impressive 3,300:1. Rainbow Effect, although present in high-contrast scenes, is generally well-controlled.

Input Lag

Display lag is measured at a minimal 33 ms, equivalent to a two-frame delay compared to the source. This slight delay may only be noticeable to competitive or fast-paced FPS gamers.

3D Image Quality

The SP1080 employs proven 3D DLP Link 144 Hz technology. Crosstalk is virtually absent due to rapid micro-mirror oscillation. Depth perception is well-rendered, though protruding effects are less pronounced. Overall, the 3D experience is commendable.

However, it’s disappointing that the projector doesn’t come with a pair of 3D DLP Link glasses. We used compatible SainSonic glasses, which offer excellent value. Synchronization occurs optically through the insertion of invisible red flashes in the film.

Features and Ergonomics InFocus ScreenPlay SP1080

Measuring at 29.2 x 22 x 16 cm and weighing 2.5 kg, this projector is slightly taller than competitors to accommodate a larger, slower-turning fan for quieter operation.

Zoom and focus adjustments, along with access buttons, are conveniently located near the lens. Notably, this model features automatic keystone correction. Connectivity options are limited to one HDMI and one VGA input, alongside audio ports and a USB Type-B port.

Remote Control

The projector’s compact remote allows easy access to various settings, source switching, volume control, and keystone correction. Unfortunately, the buttons lack backlighting, which would be beneficial for a Home Cinema setting.

Power Consumption and Noise Level

Power consumption is low, measuring 247 W in normal mode, less than the BenQ W1070+ (280 W), and a mere 207 W in Eco mode. In terms of noise, the SP1080 operates discreetly, registering at 37.5 dB(A) in Eco mode and 39 dB(A) in normal mode. It ranks among the quietest projectors in our comparison.
