Apple Prepares M5 MacBooks and Two New Studio Displays

Apple is preparing another wave of Mac launches that should arrive between late 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The company is said to be moving M5 MacBook models into mass production and to be testing at least two new external displays.

M5 MacBook line

Bloomberg reporting says Apple plans refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models built around the M5 chip. The Pro updates are listed under internal codes J714 and J716, while the Air updates use codes J813 and J815. The reports note that Apple is not expected to redesign the cases and that the main change will be the switch to M5 silicon.

Apple is moving the models nearer to mass production, which suggests a public launch window from the end of this year into the first quarter of next year. Analysts say Apple may stage the rollout so that Mac launches follow the fall iPhone cycle and then continue into early 2026. Expect performance gains and battery improvements from the new chips rather than large cosmetic changes.

New display lineup

Reports also point to two new Studio Display models with internal codes J427 and J527. The smaller model is widely described as a direct successor to the current Studio Display, while the larger model may offer a bigger panel and higher resolution for creative work. Rumors include a move to mini LED backlighting in place of standard LED and possible faster refresh and newer connection support.

Leaked code and supply signals have suggested that Apple is testing updated monitors now. If those tests and the mass production plans proceed as described, the updated displays could arrive alongside the M5 notebooks or in the months that follow. The new displays may support modern connections already offered by third-party monitors and match advances in Mac performance.

What buyers should consider

Consider timing versus need in case you are planning to purchase a new Mac soon. Even the current MacBook models are still quite powerful, and most users will not feel a significant difference when it comes to using them on a daily basis. Assuming that you want the latest chip when it comes to heavy workloads, then you might want to wait for the M5 models. The display updates will be of utmost importance to those creative professionals who require deep blacks and color fidelity that is of high brightness.

How Apple may stage this

Apple has a history of spreading Mac launches across the year. The company may first reveal the new models in a press update or a product event and then ship them in limited numbers before expanding availability. Keep an eye on official Apple statements and on supply chain and retailer stock notes for the clearest sign that shipping has begun. Bloomberg and multiple industry outlets are watching production indicators as the best early signal.
