Meta has introduced an AI dating assistant inside Facebook Dating. The tool is rolling out in the United States and Canada and is part of a wider push to reduce swipe fatigue and to help younger users find better matches.
Dating Assistant Details
The assistant accepts natural language prompts so users can ask for very specific matches. An example Meta highlighted is a prompt that asks for someone in a given neighborhood who works in a given field. The assistant can also suggest better profile copy and offer first date ideas.
Facebook is positioning the assistant as a way to skip endless swiping. Meta will place the assistant inside the Matches tab, and it will work alongside a new Meet Cute feature. Meet Cute gives users a surprise weekly match chosen by the platform algorithm, and users can opt out or change how often they receive a match.
Meta says young adult matches are growing and that hundreds of thousands of adults aged 18 to 29 create Facebook Dating profiles each month. The company reports a ten percent year-over-year increase in matches among that age group.
Some reporting notes that Meta builds these features on its Llama family of models and uses AI to power matching and profile help. The assistant is intended to use profile information that users already provide rather than to infer off-platform data.
Privacy and Context
AI features in dating apps raise privacy and safety questions. Users should review how a service uses profile data and whether match suggestions rely only on public profile fields or on inferred preferences. Meta says the assistant will use profile data, and that controls will let people opt out of features such as Meet Cute.
