Garmin has added a free app that brings Google Maps turn‑by‑turn directions to many of its smartwatches. Users will no longer need to glance at their phone for each turn when they walk, cycle, or run. The watch will guide them with gentle vibrations and on-screen prompts.

How It Works with Android Phones
To use the app, you install it from Garmin’s Connect IQ Store and then pair your watch with an Android phone running Google Maps. You choose your destination on the phone as usual. When you start navigation, the watch will receive each upcoming turn and notify you. The next three turns are available on screen after a tap, so you always know how far you must go.
What to Expect on Your Wrist
The watch will vibrate briefly before a turn to avoid the need to stare at the display. When you tap the screen, you will see the distance to your next three turns along with an arrow to show direction. The app will run alongside your regular workout tracking. Your steps, heart rate, and route mapping continue even as Google Maps guides you.
Which Garmin Models Are Supported
Garmin says that more than ninety watch models can use the new Google Maps app. This list includes popular lines such as Fenix Venu, Forerunner, and Vivoactive. You need to update your watch firmware and have the latest version of Garmin Connect Mobile to see the app in the Connect IQ Store.

Getting Started Today
Open Garmin Connect Mobile on your phone next to your paired watch and go to the Connect IQ Store. Search for Google Maps and install it. Then open the app on your watch and grant any permissions. Use Google Maps on your phone to begin navigation. The watch will pick up the directions and guide you step by step.
With Google Maps on your Garmin smartwatch, you gain confidence in every step, turn, and pedal. Your phone stays safely in your pocket while your wrist shows the way. Enjoy a smoother journey on every route.
