Apple is working with a company called Anthropic to make a smarter AI tool for its engineers. This tool, named Claude, will help Apple’s coders work faster and fix mistakes in their software. Apple usually makes its own tech tools, but this time, it is asking for help from outside.
Why Apple Needs Claude AI
Apple tried building its own AI helper called Swift Assist. However, workers inside Apple said it made too many mistakes and was slow. Now, Apple is adding Claude to Xcode, the software engineers use to make iPhone and Mac apps. Claude can do things like:
- Write pieces of code when asked
- Find and fix bugs (mistakes in the code)
- Test apps automatically
By entering the “add a dark mode button” into Claude, the platform recommends appropriate code suggestions. Engineers dedicate their time to developing concepts that matter the most because Claude functions as a time-saver.
Why This Is a Big Change
Apple likes to do everything by itself. But with AI moving fast, even Apple needs friends. Partnering with Anthropic lets Apple catch up to companies like Microsoft and Google, which already have strong AI tools.

Problems With Apple’s Old AI Tool
Apple’s Swift Assist was announced last year but never fully released. Engineers complained about it:
- Made up fake code (called “hallucinations”)
- Was too slow to use
- Got confused with complex tasks
Now, Claude will team up with Swift Assist and other tools like GitHub Copilot. Apple hopes this mix will make Xcode better for everyone.
What’s Next for Apple and AI
Apple’s boss, Tim Cook, says AI is a big focus. The company is changing its AI team to work better. Some leaders, like Craig Federighi, are now in charge of adding AI to Apple’s apps.
If Claude works well inside Apple, the company might release it to all developers later. This could happen at Apple’s WWDC event in June.

A New Way of Working
This partnership shows Apple is learning to share. By using Claude, Apple can fix its coding problems faster and keep up with rivals. For coders, this means building apps could become quicker and less frustrating.
While Apple still wants to make its own AI tools, working with others helps it stay in the game. After all, even the best players need a team.
