It has been a long wait, but it’s finally here. OpenAI has announced the public release of Sora, its video-from-text generator. The tool was first introduced in February this year and quickly became one of the most anticipated products, sparked by the growing interest in generative artificial intelligence.

After months of waiting, Sora is now available. Sam Altman’s startup used the third day of its 12 days of pre-Christmas announcements to give the tool the attention it deserves.

Until now, OpenAI had granted private access to Sora to a small group of testers. But from now on, anyone can use the AI. This launch comes just days after the tool was involved in an attempted boycott by artists.

To access Sora, users simply need to visit www.sora.com. All you need to enjoy the video generator is a ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Pro account—no additional requirements. Additionally, OpenAI will release a more powerful version called Sora Turbo.

OpenAI states that Sora will be available today in the United States and will be rolled out internationally in the coming hours. Unfortunately, it seems the tool will not be available in Europe, at least for now. The list of countries where it will be launched, available on the OpenAI support website, does not include any European Union territories. It also notes that attempting to access Sora from unsupported regions may result in account suspension or blocking.
