Leaks have also revealed that Apple will introduce an iPhone 17 Slim for the first time in its history, which will stand out for its thinness. However, there is an even more significant model: the iPhone 17 Pro.
The iPhone 17 Pro is likely to undergo the most changes compared to the current iPhone 16 Pro, which is largely a continuation of the iPhone 15 Pro. Based on everything we know so far, there are 8 exciting new features coming to the iPhone 17 Pro. Here are the details:
A19 Pro Chip
The iPhone 17 Pro will be powered by the A19 Pro chip, which is expected to be built using TSMC’s 3-nanometer process. This processor will make the iPhone 17 Pro more powerful and efficient than the previous model, while also enabling more advanced AI features.
The iPhone 17 Pro Will Arrive with More RAM Than Ever
In terms of performance, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature 12GB of RAM, though it’s unclear if this amount will be exclusive to the Pro Max model. Either way, this increased memory will allow more Apple Intelligence features to run smoothly and significantly improve multitasking capabilities.
New Design
One of the major changes coming to the iPhone 17 Pro is its design, particularly the materials Apple will use. The next iPhone will move away from titanium and switch to aluminum frames. This is a significant shift, as Apple has never used aluminum for the frame before; previous models, including the iPhone 15 Pro, were made of stainless steel.
In addition, the back of the iPhone 17 Pro — and the iPhone 17 Pro Max as well — will combine glass and aluminum. This design choice will enable wireless charging and give the iPhone a fresh new aesthetic.
New Camera Module
Speaking of design, the iPhone 17 Pro — and likely the entire iPhone 17 lineup — will feature a new camera module. The lenses will be rectangular, replacing the classic square design found on current iPhones. In other words, the camera module will have a design similar to that of the Pixel 9 Pro.
48-Megapixel Telephoto Camera on the iPhone 17 Pro
The iPhone 17 Pro will also feature upgrades in its cameras, specifically the telephoto lens. It’s expected that Apple will introduce a new 48-megapixel sensor, up from the 12 megapixels found in current models. Remember, Apple has already adopted 48 megapixels for the wide-angle (1x) and ultra-wide-angle (0.5x) sensors.
The 48 megapixels in the telephoto camera could significantly improve the quality of photos taken with zoom. It may also enable hybrid zoom, combining optical zoom with a digital crop for clearer results.
24-Megapixel Front Camera
Apple is also expected to upgrade the front camera sensor, moving to a 24-megapixel sensor, compared to the 12 megapixels on the iPhone 16. This would provide higher quality images.
A Smaller Dynamic Island for the iPhone 17 Pro Max
The Pro Max model could feature a slightly smaller Dynamic Island compared to other models, thanks to a change in the lens system that enables Face ID. While details are scarce, a smaller Dynamic Island would offer more screen space without sacrificing functionality.
A New Wi-Fi 7 Chip
Apple may move away from using Broadcom and design its own Wi-Fi 7 chip. This new chip would allow data transmission across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz networks simultaneously, supporting speeds over 40 Gbps.
