The tech giant is working on a conversational Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, which could be unveiled by the end of next year. This move shows Apple’s determination to stay ahead in the AI race.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is developing a version of Siri capable of engaging in natural conversations with users. Unlike the current assistant that follows direct commands, the updated Siri will offer advanced conversational features similar to ChatGPT’s voice mode. It is expected to hold fluid discussions and provide answers with minimal delay, making interactions more seamless and intuitive.
To achieve this, Apple will use its most advanced large language models (LLMs). According to journalist Mark Gurman, the updated Siri will offer interactions similar to those seen in ChatGPT or Gemini. Part of Apple’s strategy involves integrating generative AI into its robots, which are rumored to feature a “human-like” interface for more natural interactions.
While Apple is actively working to transform Siri with AI capabilities, the upcoming update is still a significant step away from what was announced earlier this year. During the Apple Intelligence presentation, Siri’s new features were detailed, including its ability to understand what’s displayed on the screen and gather context by pulling information from other services.
The New Siri With Natural Conversation Could Launch by 2026
According to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to announce Siri with conversational capabilities in 2025, with a full reveal likely at WWDC 2026. However, users may need to wait several months after the event to access it.
Apple requires additional time to refine its second-generation language model, which is expected to include advanced features similar to those offered by OpenAI. Sources told Gurman that the new Siri will debut with iOS 19 and macOS 16, becoming available sometime in 2026.
Apple is not in a rush to release the new Siri until it’s fully ready. Tim Cook mentioned a few weeks ago that the company is fine with not being the first to launch, as it takes time to create a high-quality product.
“It turns out that it takes a while to get it really great. It takes a lot of iteration. You have to worry about every single detail,” Tim Cook said. “Sometimes it takes a little bit longer to get it done. We’d rather come out with that kind of product and that kind of contribution to people rather than rushing to get something out first.”
Cook also stated that Apple has already launched the best AI, though users of ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini might disagree. However, Cook refers to the best AI in terms of privacy and reliability for Apple device users.
