Apple made a very interesting announcement during the launch of the new MacBook Pro with M4, and it relates to the MacBook Air. The company announced that its lightest laptops now come with a base configuration of 16 GB of RAM, all without increasing the price.

Until now, Apple included 8 GB of base memory in the MacBook Air, which may not have been enough for some more demanding tasks. Users could upgrade to 16 GB, but this would cost an additional 230 euros.
Starting today, anyone who purchases a 13- or 15-inch MacBook Air through Apple’s website can choose at least 16 GB of RAM. In fact, the 13-inch version with an M4 CPU and eight-core GPU comes with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD for the same price of 1,299 euros. The variant with an eight-core CPU, ten-core GPU, and 512 GB of SSD also has its RAM upgraded to 16 GB while keeping the price at 1,529 euros.
The base model of the MacBook Air with M3 also increases its RAM.
On the other hand, Apple offers a variant with an 8-core CPU and a 10-core CPU that includes 512 GB of SSD and 24 GB of internal memory for 1,759 euros. The same pricing applies to the 15-inch models, which are priced at 1,599 euros for the 256 GB SSD version, 1,829 euros for the 512 GB version, and 2,059 euros for the model with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD.
The MacBook Air with the M3 chip also has its base RAM increased to 16 GB while keeping the price at 1,199 euros. In all cases, upgrading the RAM to 24 GB costs an additional 230 euros.
This is a welcome change, especially since the devices are designed to run on Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI tools. The increase in RAM can help features run better and faster, allowing other demanding tasks to be performed more smoothly. This change in base RAM has been implemented across all of Apple’s machines, including the 24-inch iMac and the redesigned Mac mini.
