The critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake from Capcom is set to launch on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices on December 31. The anticipation of this port brings one of the best games of 2019 to Apple users, along with modernized gameplay and gorgeous visuals to an even larger audience.

New Year’s Eve Release

In order to run the game on your device, you will need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 or later. This classic horror game will run on M1 chips for Mac and iPad users. The company also makes it easy to play using either touch controls or pairing a Bluetooth controller for more traditional gameplay.

Capcom’s RE Engine powers this remake which provides a complete overhaul of the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 with an updated third-person view, enhanced graphics, and heightened storyline. But it was praised originally for its faithful reimagining of the survival horror classic and its brand-new experience for newcomers.

Resident Evil Remakes on Apple

After a spate of major titles being ported to iOS and macOS by triple-A game publishers, Capcom is following through with a modern Resident Evil 2 on Apple devices. Last year, Capcom released both Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, followed by Resident Evil 7: Earlier this summer, Biohazard. Though Resident Evil 7 did not sell as well as Capcom hoped, they are still pushing the Resident Evil franchise out onto more platforms.

This is a trend that other major publishers are also demonstrating as well, as Capcom is not the only one who has brought their games to Apple products. The big releases on Apple devices include Sony’s Death Stranding and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Resident Evil’s Future

One of the most exciting things for Resident Evil fans is the news that Resident Evil 2 will be launching on Apple devices, however, there is also speculation about what is next for Resident Evil. A rumor on the new ninth title is that it will go by the name of Resident Evil Apocalypse. Capcom has yet to confirm many details, but reports suggest it is an open-world style surrounding familiar faces such as Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and the Redfield siblings.

While Capcom has ported nearly all of its Resident Evil remakes to Apple products, one game still hasn’t made the jump: Resident Evil 3, the 2020 remake. Even though it is nowhere near as popular as the second game, Resident Evil 3 still deserves kudos and may soon join its predecessors on Apple devices.

Just as fans are hoping for more about Resident Evil Apocalypse, we take a careful look into the future of the franchise. Resident Evil continues to evolve and grow across more and more platforms, and it is clear that Resident Evil is no pushover in the industry, as announced by Capcom.
