Nintendo is opening the doors to a secret new playtest for its Switch Online service. Although Nintendo is not saying much, up to 10,000 participants will have the chance to try out an exclusive new feature. This playtest could be anything, from more potential GameCube games coming out on the Switch to features for the much-anticipated Switch 2 that the company recently revealed a gesture-controlled alarm clock for.

Rumors abound, including wild guesses of a Wii mini retro console or one of a plethora of Star Fox games that have been hyped, but are yet to appear. It is not knowing what to expect from this playtest, so fans stayed excited and curious about what Nintendo has yet to reveal about what this will entail.
How to Apply
Applications for the playtest open Thursday, October 10th, at 11 AM ET, and will close on Tuesday, October 15th, at 10:59 AM ET. There is a link (on Nintendo’s website) to Apply now, or, you can send a letter. Outside Japan, those will be chosen on a first come first served basis, and in Japan, the participants will be chosen by raffle if demand is very high.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a Nintendo Account
- Be an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member
- Be registered in Japan, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain
Playtest Details
According to Nintendo, the playtest will take place from October 23rd at 9 PM ET to November 5th at 7:59 PM ET. To take part, selected participants will also need to download exclusive software to their Switch console. The company said it may close the application process early if the limit is hit, but will accept up to 10,000 participants. With this, Nintendo has a chance to fill yet another exciting chapter with Nintendo fans being a part of something special, that if they’re not sure what that something is.
