Take Two Interactive has affirmed that work on the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4 is halted. The update was announced during the disclosure of the latest quarterly earnings of the company and subsequently verified in a statement made to Variety. The choice represents a significant shift in the upcoming entry in the old franchise, Borderlands.

Borderlands 4 Switch 2 was silently pulled off Take-Two’s forthcoming games list. The game had earlier had a release window to be announced. The new chart now points to such big projects as the Grand Theft Auto 6, which will be released on November 19, together with WWE 2K26 and a number of other projects, which are still without a date.

Borderlands 4 Update

According to a spokesperson of Take Two, the company had a hard choice to suspend operations on the particular platform version. As it has been stated, the emphasis has changed to provide quality post launch content and further optimization of the game experience to the existing platforms. The spokesperson further indicated that Take Two is closely working with Nintendo and that the company still has more titles to release on the new hardware in the future.

Despite the stalling of the development of Borderlands 4 Switch 2, the publisher did not declare that it would abandon the platform. The Nintendo system is yet to release future releases such as PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26. The firm reported that its relationship with Nintendo was good and continuous, which implies that the break does not reflect a larger withdrawal of the platform.

Platform optimization has also been observed by industry analysts to be resource-intensive, particularly in a time when publishers are dealing with massive launches. Borderlands 4 is one of the most important franchises of Take-Two via its subsidiary Gearbox, and it seems that the company is keen on making sure the core experience is of the expected quality.

GTA Online Response

During the same earnings discussion, Take Two chief executive officer Strauss Zelnick addressed a separate issue involving user-created content in GTA Online. Rockstar Games recently removed a mission created by a player that depicted the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk. The content drew attention across social media and raised questions about moderation practices.

Zelnick stated that the removal was a clear enforcement of the company’s terms of service. He emphasized that when content violates established rules, Take Two acts quickly and decisively. Zelnick claims that the safety of players is also one of the key priorities, and this cause did not demand a long discussion or interpretation.

Another aspect that he has pointed out is the balance Rockstar strives to achieve between responsibility and creative freedom. GTA online provides the players with as much freedom as possible, but there are boundaries to it to make sure that the players are safe and they do not violate the norms of the community. Zelnick was hopeful of the company’s ability to cope with this balance.

Grand Theft Auto Still Dominates

Zelnick also responded to online rumours of possible delays of the physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6. There were rumors that the physical releases might be delayed so as to avoid being leaked. The executive dismissed those claims and confirmed that such a delay is not part of the current plan.

Take Two’s earnings report included several notable financial milestones. Grand Theft Auto 5 has since sold 225 million copies in the world market. The game is still doing very well over 10 years after its initial release.

For the November to December quarter of the 2025 fiscal year, Take Two reported net bookings of one point seven six billion dollars. The company posted a GAAP net loss of $929.9 million, which translated to a loss of 50 cents per share. Despite the loss, net bookings exceeded Wall Street expectations, which stood at $1.58 billion.
