Apple is reportedly readying to make the biggest move with iPhone 17 Pro yet. Rumors were floating around the tech community recently that the company may merge the separate Action Button with the Volume Buttons for a more user-friendly touch experience. With all that technology that is happening right now, this could be the future of how we interact with our devices, tech enthusiasts everywhere will be buzzing with curiosity.

One Less Button

Apple has long been rumored to be switching to solid-state button solution for its iPhones, which has been exciting fans for years. It is well understood that this hype has only increased since then, as we are in the iPhone, 15 and iPhone 16 fast lane. That is one less button on the iPhone 17 Pro, that Action Button and Volume Buttons are fused in one elongated control, according to a reliable tipster Majin Bu. The device allows for a significant improvement in device functionality with much less distraction, a longstanding concern for users.

In fact, the solid-state button design could integrate a haptic feedback Taptic Engine, like the technology used in the Camera Control Button. This means there would be no traditional mechanical buttons, instead offering the kind of seamless experience as users pressed or swiped on the newly designed control. It is like pressing to adjust your volume, or even swiping, which comfortably blends the functional with the elegant.

Capacitive Touch Technology

This merged button concept provides an exciting new layer to the story when combined with the potential for capacitive touch technology. For example, the Camera Control Button functions as a generic button as well as a swipe so the user can easily maneuver between different tasks. If Apple can somehow integrate this technology into the Action and Volume buttons together, users can get the task done with a simple press while changing the volume with a simple swipe.

The details remain speculative, but given Apple’s track record of innovation, there is a strong likelihood they can do it in style. Only fans of the brand are eager to see how Apple will be able to refine this concept and make it user-friendly. Secondly, there was tremendous potential for simplifying the design by merging buttons, and additionally, there would be the side benefit of providing a deeper, more immersive user experience as is Apple’s commitment to simplicity and sophistication.

What’s Next?

Other than the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple is set to launch an ultra-thin iPhone, the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to have a heavier price tag than its competitors, but boasts top-class features. Mostly, reports the merging of Action and Volume Buttons is being restricted to Pro model but with some speculation that the standard iPhone 17 models too might get this design innovation taken.

With new technologies unveiled by Apple all the time, the combination of these two buttons is a feature that stands out as a potentially groundbreaking piece of functionality that could change the way users interact with their devices. The question on everyone’s mind: But will Apple dip in and create a new way of controlling our iPhones?

Finally, the iPhone 17 Pro is looking set to pioneer a new frontier, with a forward-thinking button design, leaving everyone to ponder what else is coming from Apple. Are these bold merging of controls coming to our next generation of iPhones? While we wait for Apple to make its next announcement, only time will tell, but once it’s here we’re excited to find out what will come. Smartphone evolution is ongoing, and so too is excitement around what Apple is going to do next.
