Apple watchers are watching closely. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that new Macs will be released at the start of 2026. This is the list of his updates that consist of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Studio, and Studio Display.
It does not imply that Apple will declare new MacBook Pros in the near future. There have been unofficial reports and rumors that there is an imminent launch. Gurman says the timing is more likely to be spread across the first half of the year rather than a single surprise drop.
Apple already ships the M5 chip in one 14-inch MacBook Pro. The plan now looks like filling out the rest of the line with M5 generation chips. That will probably consist of the M5 Pro and M5 Max models of the bigger MacBook Pro.
Early 2026 Launches
Expect a staggered rollout. The MacBook Air models will likely come first. They may arrive as M5 upgrades that keep the existing designs. Gurman and other journalists are referring to the early 2026 as those updates.
The near term plan also includes the refresh of the MacBook Pro that will retain the existing design but will include the M5 Pro and M5 Max components. That update would be a classic spec bump. It would give pro-level performance improvements without a full redesign.
Apple may also update the Mac mini and the Mac Studio soon. The Mac Studio could receive M5 Max and possibly an M5 Ultra class option. The timing for these desktops looks to be within the same early window.
A low-cost MacBook is another item on the list. Bloomberg describes a cheaper notebook that may use an iPhone-class chip to hit a lower price. That device would target buyers who want a simple Mac at a small cost.
Design and Chips
The MacBook Pro still has a road map of a larger redesign. It is planned, according to Gurman, that a new MacBook Pro with a touch screen with OLED technology and some modifications to the body. The redesign is not anticipated to be made this spring. The significant overhaul is expected to be planned in the end of 2026.
There is also talk that the M6 generation could appear sooner than most people expect. Apple has shown a pattern of quick cycles. The company moved from M3 to M4 in a short span. That makes a faster M6 timeline plausible. The company may choose a short cadence for top-end chips while keeping mid-tier updates on a steadier pace.
What this means for buyers is simple. The near term updates will give faster chips and small gains in battery life and graphics. The big visual and interface changes will come later in the year for users who want an OLED touch display or a redesigned frame. An Apple Studio Display update is also in the works. Reports mention a refreshed 27-inch model with higher quality backlighting and a possible new 32-inch option with higher resolution. The new displays could arrive alongside the Mac updates.
