Battlefield 6 Beta Had Weak Vehicles, But Devs Defend Choice

DICE has admitted that vehicles in the Battlefield 6 beta felt too fragile for many players. The studio says it prefers to tune vehicles to be on the weaker side at launch and then iterate, rather than ship with machines that dominate every match.

This admission came from lead producer David Sirland during an exchange about balance and the open classes system. Sirland wrote that the team is actively working on balance and that the studio would rather start with vehicles that are a bit weak than ones that are too powerful.

Vehicle balance issue

Many beta players reported that tanks, helicopters, and light vehicles were easy to destroy. Anti-vehicle tools were plentiful on maps, and players often outfitted infantry to counter armor with rockets and mines. That made vehicle play feel risky and short-lived in some matches.

Players also flagged scenarios where a single player could combine weapons and gadgets in a way that made vehicles hard to use. Clips from playtests showed engineers and infantry with high damage loadouts holding key positions and denying tanks space to move. The result was a sense that armor could not survive long enough to matter.

Sirland acknowledged that the balance problem is not limited to one map or one tactic. He said the team sees the issue as a wholesale balance matter and not a single bug. The studio plans to tune the maps, the spawn points for anti vehicle tools, and the power of vehicle weapons.

Developer response plan

DICE has said it will watch player data closely as the game moves past beta. The team will adjust damage values, gadget availability, and defensive tools for vehicles. The goal is to get a better feel for risk and reward when players choose to use tanks or aircraft.

Sirland explained why DICE chose to err on the side of weaker vehicles at first. The studio expects players to learn and to get better with time. Starting with weaker vehicles reduces the chance that a small group of skilled pilots or tank crews will dominate the early launch window. The developers prefer that outcome to one where vehicles are so strong that matches become one-sided.

Players will see balance patches and server-side tweaks in the weeks after launch. DICE has not shared a full timetable, but the team has said it will act quickly on the most glaring problems. The studio also plans to monitor whether open classes create new balance issues as players try new loadouts.

Match experience matters to many players. Some want vehicles to feel powerful and central to maps. Others want infantry play to remain viable and competitive. DICE faces the job of finding the middle ground that keeps both groups engaged. Pricing and format for Battlefield 6 remain unchanged. The official launch date is set and the developer will continue public testing in some form as adjustments are made.
