Apple Could Add Reverse Charging to iPhone 17 Pro

The rumor says Apple has tested reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 Pro. The claim comes from a well-known Weibo leaker who posts under the name Fixed Focus Digital. Major tech outlets picked up the claim and published summaries of the leak.

What the recent claim says

The Weibo post says the iPhone 17 Pro has a dependable reverse charging feature. The leak does not say whether the power transfer is wireless or cable-based. Other recent posts that repeat the claim say the feature could move up to 7.5 watts. That level matches the Qi standard used by many accessories, but it is below MagSafe peak power. Readers should note that the detail about 7.5 watts comes from rumor reports and has not been confirmed by Apple.

Why this is not a new rumor

Hints about reverse charging go back years. Teardowns of the iPhone 11 Pro Max found hardware that some engineers thought could support bilateral charging. That gear never shipped as an active feature. Since then, there have been filings and leaks that suggested Apple tested similar ideas in later models. The pattern shows that Apple has looked at this function before.

How reverse charging would work in practice

Reverse wireless charging would let a phone share power with small devices. AirPods and an Apple Watch are the most likely targets. If implemented, it would let a user place an accessory on the phone’s back and gain some charge. A 7.5-watt rate would give a modest top-up for earbuds and some power for a watch. That level would not match dedicated chargers, but it could help in a pinch.

Technical and design limits Apple faces

Apple must add coils and control circuitry to send power outward. Those parts take up space and add heat. The iPhone 17 Pro design is already focused on thinness and camera changes. Apple must balance battery size, safety, and thermal rules before turning test hardware into a final ship feature. Past reports show Apple delayed or dropped this function when trade-offs did not meet its standards.

What users should watch for at launch

Apple will confirm features at its official event. Look for precise wording in the Apple spec sheet and in the iPhone 17 Pro tech notes. A mention by Apple will be the real test of the rumor. If the feature appears, wait for reviewer battery and heat tests to see how it performs with real accessories. Independent tests will show how much power a phone can deliver and how fast it cools under use.

How to treat repeated rumors and leaks. Leaks can be helpful, but they are not proof. Some leakers have strong records. Others repeat claims they see elsewhere. The iPhone reverse charging story has come up many times and has been both true in hardware traces and false in final products. Treat this rumor as possible and not certain until Apple makes an announcement.
