Hidden Clues in iOS 26
Aaron Perris, a MacRumors reader, found in the iOS 26 beta an image asset that does not correspond to an actual Apple Watch screen resolution in July 2020. The found graphic is 422 by 514 pixels in size. By comparison, Apple Watch Ultra 2 features a 410 x 502-pixel display. This is an indication that Apple is getting ready to support a slightly modified screen within its next high-end product.
Brighter, Sharper, More Efficient
More pixels would imply that there would be improved text, more detailed maps, and watchfaces. Assuming Apple does not change the diagonal size of the display, 1.92 inches, the increased pixel count would result in an increase in the density of the display to 345 ppi. Instead, when the density is maintained by Apple to 336 ppi, the screen would swell in size to 1.98 inches, or around three percent. Such additional room might be achieved by a minimal reduction of the bezel, but not by making the case any larger.
