Apple might finally be stepping into the foldable phone market. According to trusted tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is working on an iPhone Fold that could launch in late 2026 or early 2027. This phone, rumored to skip Face ID and include a fingerprint sensor, could change how we use iPhones. Here is everything we know.

The Big Updates

A New Look

The iPhone Fold is expected to open like a book, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. When closed, it might have a 5.5-inch screen on the outside, perfect for quick tasks. Open it up, and you get a 7.8-inch screen inside for watching videos or working. Kuo says this inner screen might not show a crease, a common issue with foldables.

No Face ID

Apple is reportedly removing Face ID to save space. Instead, the iPhone Fold could bring back Touch ID, with a fingerprint sensor built into the power button. This might feel like a step back, but it helps keep the phone slim.

Price and Specs

The iPhone Fold won’t be cheap. Analysts guess it could cost between $2000 and $2500, making it one of the most expensive phones ever. For that price, you might get a dual camera setup on the back and a front camera on the inner screen. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the phone could be about 9mm thick when folded and under 5mm when open.

When Will It Launch?

Kuo shared a rough timeline for the iPhone Fold. Apple could finalize the design by mid-2025 and start testing production later that year. Mass production might begin in late 2026, meaning the phone could hit stores by late 2026 or early 2027.

Apple might play it safe with sales, shipping only 3 to 5 million units in 2026. If people like it, a second model could arrive in 2027, selling up to 20 million units.

Why the Delay?

Creating a foldable iPhone requires significant difficulty. Apple must guarantee that their screen will maintain top performance through various years without showing signs of creasing. Leaked information indicates that the manufacturers have enhanced the hinge system to minimize product degradation. The time needed for perfecting this technology development seems to be the reason behind the 2026 launch date.

Should You Wait for the iPhone Fold?

Pros

  • The 7.8-inch display modality provides improved screen dimensions suitable for reading texts and distinct advantages for gaming and multiple application operation.
  • The foldable iPhone will establish itself as unique in the market by its design.
  • People who favor fingerprint sensors will find Touch ID better than Face ID.

Cons

  • The high price tag exceeding $2000 makes it a major financial commitment.
  • The first-generation foldable phone devices tend to show breakdowns when used.

Regarding foldable phones currently available you can find suitable solutions through Samsung and Google. Customers who choose to stay with Apple may benefit from waiting for their future iPhone Fold release.

iPhone Fold remains a future possibility since its release remains distant by several years. Apple dedicates its work to creating both crease-free screens and elegant designs to reach maximum product quality. Potential customers may choose against purchasing the phone because of its exorbitant cost and absence of Face ID capabilities. Future Apple updates during 2025 might disclose strategic details about their groundbreaking iPhone invention.
