The Unconventional Spring Cleaning at Xbox

This week, Xbox embarks on a unique spring-cleaning endeavor. As part of an update to the upload feature, starting January 9, 2024, all screenshots and recorded gameplay clips older than 90 days will bid farewell to the Xbox network. Act swiftly to manually create backups for these videos and images, or risk bidding them adieu.

How to Back Up Your Xbox Screenshots and Clips

Henceforth, videos and screenshots recorded on your Xbox will automatically vanish from the servers after 90 days. Consequently, it is imperative to safeguard your files independently, as after three months, accessing them will become an impossibility. Xbox users have two viable options: either upload to Microsoft OneDrive or store them on an external hard drive.

Step-by-Step Guide

  • Press the Xbox button, navigate to “My Games and Apps,” select “Show All,” then “Apps,” and finally “Recordings.”
  • Manage your screenshots and recorded clips here.
  • Decide whether to upload the recordings to OneDrive or copy them to an external drive.

Xbox Caution: Exercise Care with Auto-Uploads

While your recordings are conventionally uploaded directly to the Xbox network for 90 days, reconsider utilizing the auto-upload feature, especially if you’re immersed in Baldur’s Gate 3. Recording explicit scenes in this RPG through automatic uploads is a breach of Xbox policies and could lead to suspension. For games featuring nudity, it might be prudent to disable the upload feature and save your recordings locally.
