Stoic and Xbox Game Studios will take Towerborne out of early access and release a finished version on February 26, 2026. The team moved away from the original plan to launch the game as free to play. The new release will be a buy once offline game with optional online co-op and no ongoing live service purchases.
The decision came after the developer listened to player feedback while the game was in early access and Game Preview. Stoic said players wanted a complete story and no ongoing monetization. The change required significant technical work to remove always-online systems and to place most play functions on the client.
Launch and Changes
Towerborne will arrive on Xbox Series X and S, PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5 on the release date. The regular version will be priced at a recommended price of 24.99. It will be sold at a Deluxe Edition costing $29.99 and will have more crafting materials and cosmetics. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate on the same day.
Stoic and Xbox describe a major one-point-zero update that rewrites parts of the game. The new construction provides an entire story and a final battle with an antagonist by name. Two new bosses are added to the list, and the world map was redesigned with a new coastal biome. The update also brings a reformed difficulty system and a new Brutal mode, which is offered to player who wants to have a fierce challenge.
What Players Get
Players should expect new encounters, new gear, and a new Forge system that lets them upgrade and reroll stats on equipment. The update expands player abilities and adds new combat challenges. The team also moved cosmetics out of the premium store and made them attainable through normal gameplay using a new in-game currency called Writs. Players will keep Founders Pack rewards, and progress will carry over to the full release.
The move away from free to play also ends the premium cosmetic store and the in-game Belfry Bucks currency on the launch date. Stoic has asked players to spend any remaining Belfry Bucks before the switch. Many cosmetics that were in the premium store will move to the Writs Shop, so they remain earnable through play.
