The experts who specialize in addons for WoW, known as Dragonflight, are expressing serious concern. They fear that if this change actually happens, many addons will no longer work properly. The community that engages in Role-Playing (RP) within the game would suffer the most from this potential alteration.

The release date for WoW Patch 10.2.7, titled Dark Heart, is set for May 8th. This patch offers a sneak peek into the pre-event content of the upcoming expansion, The War Within. However, addon experts are deeply skeptical about the changes introduced in WoW: Dragonflight with this update. It appears that Blizzard developers are altering the way addons communicate with the game servers. The only information available to players regarding this change is found in the WoW Wiki entry documenting the API changes in patch 10.2.7.

Certain addons that consume a significant amount of data might undergo throttling. This could have severe repercussions, particularly for RP enthusiasts in WoW. Addons like Total RP 3 and specific WeakAuras, among others, would essentially lose their functionality. Ellie elaborates on this issue through her Twitter account.

RP Players Are Worried: Change Might Render Key RP Addon Ineffective.

it's looking like in 10.2.7 PTR the addon comms (something primarily used for addons like TRP3) is going to be severely rate-limited server-side, making them effectively unusable. This is going to disproportionately affect the RP community. (1/8)@WatcherDev @WarcraftDevs

According to a WoW dataminer’s Twitter post, the upcoming addon changes in patch 10.2.7 would drastically increase the time it takes for queries on TRP3, from a few seconds to a staggering 20 to 90 seconds. This testing scenario involved only two individuals, but in a real situation with numerous players, the waiting period could become unmanageable.

TRP3 is a popular addon utilized by roleplayers to craft detailed profiles for their characters and display their roles within the game’s setting. Understandably, RP players on the WoW forums are expressing significant concern. The dataminer reveals that not only TRP3 is affected by these changes but also numerous other addons.

A bit of a misconception here – this doesn't just affect RP addons, it affects many. Things like WeakAura string sharing, raid timer check things, I think even Details to a degree, Altoholic, AdiBags, SilverDragon, WIM, Bagnon.https://t.co/H2nTRIAM13

The impact extends beyond TRP3; addons such as sharing extensive WeakAura strings, conducting raid timer checks, and managing inventory through addons like Altoholic, AdiBags, SilverDragon, and Bagnon are likely to suffer as well. These addons often require retrieving substantial amounts of data, which could result in prolonged wait times.

Once the addon changes are implemented in patch 10.2.7, a multitude of addons will experience delays in retrieving essential information. Many of WoW’s most widely used aids will be notably slower.

Currently, the reasons behind these adjustments remain unclear as developers have not officially communicated the changes. Players are actively seeking answers, reaching out to WoW developer accounts via Ellie’s Twitter post. We eagerly await further developments and will keep you informed.
