Enchanters in WoW: The War Within recently noticed an unexpected nerf. Players looking to buy enchantments from the auction house should be prepared for even higher prices.
If you’re aiming to fine-tune your character in the endgame of WoW: The War Within, you can get the new enchantments. However, you’ll need to spend a lot of gold at the auction house, especially for level 3 weapon enchantments, as well as enhancements for items like shoes. This is partly driven by supply and demand at the start of the season, but also because enchanters are now getting fewer materials when disenchanting items.
An unannounced nerf to disenchantment yields is causing prices to rise even further. The big question is: is this a bug or an intentional change?
Stealth Nerf for Disenchanting?
Enchanters on the WoW Reddit forum have reported a sudden drop in the amount of Rank 3 Storm Dust. Redditor Aspalar shared his experience in the r/woweconomy subreddit, initially thinking he was just unlucky with disenchanting.
However, after disenchanting 2,400 items and documenting the results in a spreadsheet, it became clear that Blizzard had secretly reduced the drop rate of Storm Dust.
Other traders in the same Reddit thread confirmed this. The drop rate for Rank 3 Storm Dust has decreased from 0.99 to 0.8. While this may seem like a small change, it has led to an overall increase in prices.
Many traders and enchanters are now stocking up on Rank 3 Storm Dust, waiting to see if Blizzard will address the change or if the stealth nerf is here to stay. For buyers of enchantments, this means that the already expensive Rank 3 enchantments will likely become even more costly. Fortunately, the lower-ranked enchantments (Rank 1 and 2) offer nearly the same benefits as Rank 3 but at a fraction of the cost.
