On Wednesday, August 28, Reddit faced a major outage. Many of the site’s pages were not working. Reddit is a highly popular forum where people discuss topics like video games, recipes, true crime, and politics. It has been one of the top sites worldwide for years.

On August 28 3:26 PM CT, Reddit went down. Users saw a server error message when trying to access the site. The entire Reddit site and all its subreddits went down. If you visited Reddit during that hour , you’d have seen a “Server error. Try again later” message at the top. This error also appeared on individual posts and subreddits.
Reddit’s status page showed “degraded performance” and said engineers are investigating the issue. Reddit went down shortly after 4 PM ET. The latest update was posted at 4:16 PM ET.
Users quickly moved to other platforms to check if others faced the same problem. Soon, jokes and memes started appearing.
This outage follows similar problems Reddit had in April. Back then, users saw the same “try again later” message due to a back-end issue. Recently, Reddit has been dealing with AI bots and making deals with OpenAI. It even went public with a $6.5 billion valuation.
Reddit is back online as of August 28 4:04 PM CT. The site and all subreddits are now working again. Engineers have resolved the outage, and everything is functioning normally.
