Projections had already suggested that Chinese production of OLED displays would surpass South Korea’s, and this was confirmed in the first quarter of 2024 by sector experts.
The latest figures show that while Samsung remains the largest individual producer, Chinese OLED panel manufacturers dominated 53.4% of the global market in the period, compared to Korea’s 46.6%.

According to the analysis, Samsung retained 41% of all OLED display sales, including tablets, notebooks, smartphones, and TVs. However, Chinese sector companies contributed to a 15.6% year-on-year growth, jointly leading the market between January and April 2024.
The report highlights a significant detail in this transition: China achieved this expansion solely through its domestic market. Companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO have committed to using local suppliers, boosting Chinese companies’ growth.
As a result, Korean manufacturers saw a decline in their market share within China. Orders from Samsung Display and other Korean companies within the country sharply decreased. In 2022, South Korean manufacturers accounted for 56% of OLED panel orders in China, but a year later, this plummeted to just 16%.
This current shift didn’t occur suddenly but has a context. Since many smartphones use OLED displays, the recent research extends this ongoing change from the previous year.
