Similar to Samsung and other Chinese brands, Google may also be gearing up to release a smart ring soon. This is suggested by a patent filed by the company and published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

According to the documentation presented by the search giant, the development of a compact antenna is crucial for the production of a smart ring. This is because the wearable device needs to communicate with other devices and also receive Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals without consuming too much power from its low-capacity battery.

In Google’s documentation, the company further explains that developing this antenna poses a significant challenge since the human body is electrically conductive. Therefore, the patented design features an 8×8 mm antenna capable of receiving signals without interference, thanks to its production with a microwave dielectric substrate.

Google’s antenna may also have the capability to store energy to help improve the ring’s battery life.

Finally, the search giant asserts that the antenna could also be applied to other wearables, such as watches. However, since this is just a patent, it remains uncertain whether this antenna will ever reach the market as a product.

In any case, it is essential to note that companies like Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, Huawei, and others are keeping a close eye on the growing market for smart rings.
