Bethesda in defense: Modders of Starfield fix bugs and issues much faster – that’s why the developers are always lagging behind. Since the successful launch of Starfield, despite abundant criticism from player circles, the game belongs to the major bestsellers of 2023. Bethesda developers stress their commitment to addressing bug fixes and delivering other updates. And it is true, just last week a patch was released with numerous fixes and revisions. However, players criticize the pace of the developers. Modders had already provided corresponding solutions in the PC version long ago. Why are they always faster? Bethesda even felt compelled to provide an answer to this.

Starfield: Why bug fixes take a long time

The short answer for Bethesda’s “slow” resolution of issues compared to modders is: People at the Starfield studio have to consider much more. And the long version? It comes directly from Bethesda because Community Manager Robert ‘VaultOfDaedalus’ O’Neill has posted in a Reddit thread:

“Hello, I just want to provide a little insight: Official fixes and new content must go through lengthy certification and localization processes, especially for consoles (which is why the beta is only available for Steam users). That’s why we prefer to bundle fixes in larger, consolidated updates that target branch milestones instead of releasing them ad hoc. Additionally, this ensures better testing of the builds when the new code is complete.”

The players themselves are only partially understanding. Many doubt, for example, that the “lengthy” processes have achieved anything – after all, the game was still plagued by many bugs at launch after six years of development. Moreover, Starfield players speculate whether more streamlining and less bureaucracy should be possible. However, there is also understanding from other users: In a huge project with many developers, bureaucracy is necessary.
