The Californian company GoPro has introduced two new action cameras: the Hero 13 Black, which is the latest annual update for the main product, and a smaller, lighter camera called the Hero. The Hero weighs just 86 grams and records 4K videos at 30 fps in a 16:9 format, but it does not have any additional features.

The Hero 13 Black uses the same 1/1.9-inch sensor from GoPro as its predecessors, with a resolution of 5,599 x 4,927 pixels (27.6 megapixels). GPS is included in this model, a feature that was missing in the Hero 12 and received much criticism from the community.
Probably the most exciting new feature is the interchangeable lenses, which must be purchased separately. The camera automatically recognizes these lenses and adjusts the settings accordingly.
One of the available lenses is the Lens Mod macro lens, priced around 140 euros. This lens allows for variable focus on distant objects and lets you get up to four times closer to a subject than with the standard lens. Additionally, the rotating lens ring allows for manual focus adjustment at a minimum distance of 11 centimeters.
An ultra-wide lens, priced around 110 euros, is designed mainly for POV shots with a 177-degree field of view. The anamorphic lens, costing around 140 euros, offers even more advanced features, providing high-quality ultra-wide-angle shots in a 21:9 format with minimal distortion.
Additionally, there is a package with four ND filters, available for around 80 euros. These filters come in ND4, ND8, ND16, and ND32 gradations, allowing you to capture images with motion blur even in relatively bright light.
The Hero 13 Black also includes several other updates, such as new video modes and extended battery life. GoPro now offers a magnetic mount that simplifies and speeds up the process of changing cameras and accessories. The system appears to be similar to the mounting solutions from Insta360 based on the pictures.
The second new camera, the Hero, is about 35 percent smaller and 46 percent lighter than the Hero 13 Black. It is waterproof up to 5 meters and is operated using both a touchscreen and a button.
The Hero is mainly designed for video recording. It captures photos at 12 megapixels, but GoPro has not provided additional details on the resolution—photos are likely extracted from the video footage.
The GoPro Hero 13 Black is priced around 450 euros, while the Hero costs about 230 euros. According to the manufacturer, the Hero 13 Black will be available starting September 10, 2024, and the Hero will be available from September 22, 2024.
