LG has revealed a family of UltraGear evo gaming monitors that aim to bring 5K pictures to serious players. The screens include built-in AI upscaling that runs on the monitor itself. This on-device processing is meant to sharpen images while easing the load on the graphics card. LG says this is the first 5K AI upscaling technology built into gaming monitors.
The range covers several sizes and panel types. LG showed MiniLED and OLED versions, and at least one very large model. The new line will be on display at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.
Key Specs Now
One highlighted model is a 27-inch MiniLED monitor. That model uses thousands of local dimming zones to control light and reduce blooming in bright scenes. LG lists 2,304 dimming zones for that MiniLED. The brand also claims high peak brightness and fast refresh rates that can scale between 5K and lower resolutions for even higher frame rates.
LG says the displays use AI for several tasks. The onboard algorithms will upscale incoming video to near 5K class clarity. The same AI will also help tune scenes and enhance sound. This design aims to give players a clearer image while lowering the need to upgrade GPUs.
LG also points to a flagship 39-inch OLED and a very large 52-inch 5K2K model that target different types of players. The company calls the 52-inch unit one of the largest 5K class gaming panels they will show.
What This Means
On-device AI upscaling can change the upgrade cycle for some gamers. A faster image pipeline inside the monitor can deliver sharp frames even when the PC is not at the bleeding edge. For players who do not want frequent GPU upgrades, this could be welcome news. It also shifts part of the image work from the PC to the display.
The MiniLED model’s many dimming zones will help keep dark areas clean and bright highlights under control. That is valuable in games that mix deep shadow with good effects. The higher peak brightness, combined with local dimming, aims to preserve detail across both dark and bright parts of a scene.
LG has not published retail prices or final ship dates for the full range. Expect premium pricing for these models, given the panel tech and onboard AI features. LG will provide hands-on demos at CES and more details at that time.
