Google has started rolling out Gemini inside the Chrome browser for Mac and Windows desktop users in the United States. The feature arrives for users who have their browser language set to English. Google says the rollout will expand to more platforms and languages in the future.

Gemini in Chrome

A small Gemini icon now appears in the top right corner of the Chrome window. Users can click that icon to ask Gemini to explain a web page or to compare details across open tabs. The tool can summarize multiple pages and can answer follow-up questions while you keep the tabs open. Google frames this as a way to get clarity fast without copying and pasting text between pages.

Gemini in Chrome can also reach into other Google apps. The assistant can surface links to Calendar events to help schedule meetings. It can find a place in a YouTube video or show a map location without forcing the user to leave the page they are reading. Google says these links will make task flows smoother across apps.

Agentic browsing coming

Google is building agentic capabilities that let Gemini perform multi-step tasks on a user’s web browser when the user gives permission. The company gave examples like finding items, adding them to a shopping cart, and pausing before the final checkout. Google says the agent will keep users in control and will ask for approval before finalizing purchases or bookings. The feature will roll out in the coming months.

The address bar will gain AI Mode so users can type complex prompts directly into the omnibox and then ask follow-ups. Chrome will also suggest context-aware questions based on the page you are viewing to help start a search. Google says these features are designed to speed research and to let users dig deeper without extra steps.

Google is extending safety features at the same time. A version of Gemini Nano will power on device protections to spot scam pages and fake alerts. Chrome’s Enhanced Protection mode will use AI to help detect fraudulent giveaways and imitation virus warnings. The browser will also offer an automatic password reset option on supported sites so users can replace exposed passwords with one click. Google frames these tools as both proactive and privacy-focused.

What’s next

The company says it will let businesses adopt Gemini in Chrome through Workspace settings and that admins will have controls for enterprise deployment. Google also plans to expose enterprise-grade privacy and data protection for business customers who enable the assistant. Enterprises should expect admin options in the coming weeks.

What this means for users is practical. Readers can ask Gemini to make a recipe fit a dietary need. Shoppers can compare models across tabs and then have the assistant gather a short list. Travelers can ask Gemini to pull together flight and hotel options and then refine choices with follow-up prompts. The agentic features aim to save time on repetitive web tasks while keeping the final choices with the user.
