Google has added five new languages to AI Mode. The new languages are Hindi Japanese Korean Indonesian and Brazilian Portuguese. AI Mode is the part of Google Search that offers an AI powered experience. It uses a customized version of Gemini with multimodal and reasoning features.

The feature first appeared as an experiment for Google One AI Premium members in March. Since then Google expanded the English rollout to many new markets. Google said the language update will let more people ask complex questions in their preferred tongue. That should help users who need detailed answers and local context.

Why This Matters

Adding these languages changes how millions of people can search. Users who speak Hindi Japanese Korean Indonesian or Brazilian Portuguese can now try AI Mode in their native language.

The expansion also matters for businesses and creators. Search results that include AI summaries or overviews can change how much traffic reaches websites. Some critics say that AI summaries reduce clicks to sites while Google says it still sends many visits to publishers.

AI Mode also has advanced agent features for tasks like restaurant reservations. Those agent features are being tested with higher tier subscriptions and with extra experiments in Labs. Accessibility of these tools varies by region.

Google says it plans to make AI Mode the default experience at some point. A Google product manager indicated that move is under consideration as the system matures.

How it works

Users open AI Mode from a tab on the search page or from a button in the search bar. They can ask multi part questions request step by step plans and get a summarized view of web sources. The system blends web content with reasoning from Google models.

The company describes the model as built to respect privacy and to provide source links for further reading. That makes it easier to check where answers come from and to follow up with a full search result if needed.

What users should expect

Expect improved local language understanding for common queries. Final rollout will yield mixed results because the system will be adjusting to new languages and local content.

The AI Mode should be monitored by the developers and site owners with respect to referral traffic. They might have to tune content and metadata to appear in both classic search and AI powered summaries.

The experience will evolve. Google is testing agent features that find reservations book appointments and handle other tasks. Some of these features are limited to certain subscriber tiers and regions for now.
