Microsoft is transforming the productivity landscape with the latest enhancements to its Copilot AI for Office apps. Subscribers to Microsoft 365 Copilot, priced at $30 per user monthly, are getting a suite of new tools designed to make AI integration even more seamless. These updates include new capabilities in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams that streamline everything from data analysis to inbox management.
According to The Verge, the standout new feature is Python integration inside Excel, allowing users to perform advanced analyses such as forecasting, risk assessment, machine learning, and visualizing complex data (all through natural language commands), eliminating the need for coding. “It’s like adding a skilled data analyst to the team,” says Jared Spataro, corporate vice president of AI at work at Microsoft. This enhancement empowers users to work effortlessly with Copilot to produce advanced insights and visualizations, offering support for functions like XLOOKUP, SUMIF, and creating charts and PivotTables.
PowerPoint & Outlook: Smarter with AI
PowerPoint is receiving a notable upgrade with a new AI-driven narrative builder. This feature helps users quickly generate the first draft of a slide deck, and soon, Copilot will automatically apply branded company templates and approved images from SharePoint libraries. These enhancements make presentations faster and more aligned with corporate branding.
Outlook, meanwhile, is getting even more intuitive. In addition to drafting and summarizing emails, Copilot will now help users organize their inboxes more effectively. A new “prioritize my inbox” feature will automatically highlight important emails based on topics, keywords, or people. Later this year, users will even be able to teach Copilot to recognize specific subjects that matter most to them, ensuring critical communications are always flagged.
Enhanced Meeting Summaries in TeamsIn Microsoft Teams, Copilot will summarize conversations from both chat and spoken discussions during meetings, a feature set to roll out later this month. This ensures that meeting organizers don’t miss key questions or discussions, enhancing follow-up and decision-making processes. Spataro highlights that Copilot in Teams has been one of the most transformative uses of AI for businesses, noting, “Our customers tell us Copilot in Teams has changed meetings forever.”
New Capabilities in Word and OneDrive
In addition to its Excel and PowerPoint updates, Microsoft is enhancing Copilot in Word by integrating data from emails, meetings, and documents. This will allow users to easily reference and incorporate relevant information from multiple sources into their drafts. Users can pull attachments from emails or include discussion points from meetings directly into their documents.

OneDrive is also getting an AI boost later this month. Copilot will be able to compare up to five files at once, summarizing and highlighting differences between them. This functionality is particularly useful for businesses that rely on file versioning and collaborative editing.
The AI Push in Business Productivity
Microsoft’s improvements to Copilot in Office apps are designed to make the AI assistant more valuable for businesses. New features like Copilot Pages and AI agents are also in the pipeline, enabling task automation and further increasing efficiency. Despite a slow start for the paid version of Copilot, largely due to bugs and a perceived high price point, Microsoft is seeing significant traction. According to Spataro, 60 percent of Fortune 500 companies now use Copilot, and daily usage of the AI assistant has nearly doubled quarter-over-quarter.
Vodafone is one of the largest organizations to adopt Copilot, purchasing 68,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses for its 100,000 employees after trialing the AI assistant and recognizing its benefits. This move highlights the growing business interest in integrating AI into everyday workflows, especially as organizations strive to improve productivity and decision-making processes.
With these upgrades, Microsoft is positioning Copilot as an indispensable tool for businesses looking to enhance efficiency and innovation through AI. From advanced data analysis in Excel to streamlined inbox organization in Outlook, Copilot’s new features are designed to empower users with AI-driven insights and automation. While the paid version has seen mixed reception, its growing adoption among major corporations like Vodafone signals that Microsoft is steadily making AI a central part of business operations.
