Bethesda’s space RPG Starfield has only started to find its fun after nearly a year of its release as its latest updates and the upcoming Shattered Space DLC can attest for. However, it has been receiving a lot of critiques from its users and has been subject to several changes for making tactical, quality of life improvements and some newcomers such as surface maps and difficulty sliders. Some players thought that these features should have been included in the game at the start while others are slowly seeing Starfield as the space adventure that was marketed during the release of the game.

These changes have made Starfield a much better experience, albeit having further improvements. New thematic DLC is set to be released on September 30, 2024, Shattered Space and the game is promising to bring even more negativity to its players.

A Year of Quality-of-Life Updates

Starfield (Buy now at $39), as an RPG title, has received several quality-of-life improvements in the past year, which changed the nature of the game significantly. Among changes, the complete revamp of maps of the game surface stands as one of the most drastic ones. Previously described as useless, these maps give a clear view of geography and buildings on every planet.

Furthermore, the developers at Starfield incorporated a difficulty feature that enables players to raise the level of complexity to earn XP rewards. The introduction of the REV-8 land vehicle has also hastened the exploration of planets and this has been eased despite some mechanical problems. New additions include adjustable console brightness, red, green, and blue interior lighting for ships, options to force respect from characters, and easier navigation through vendor menus.

Anticipation of the upcoming Shattered Space DLC has already started building up among fans. Scheduled for September 30, the DLC offers a much darker and more intense experience compared to the main game. Some of the early trailers and scenes include new features as jump scares, spooky sounds and background, and hardcore gun battle scenes. To those who complained that the base game has too much optimism in the world and the story, Starfield is returning to the roots of what Bethesda is known for.

A Promising Future for Starfield

Thus, its evolution over the past year can be diversely described as productive, even though Starfield is still far from being perfect. From quality-of-life improvements to the recently announced Shattered Space DLC, Starfield has evolved greatly into the space adventure that fans wanted. Bethesda has invested loads of time to devise the game and it is safe to say that Starfield is incomplete and will undergo some changes in the future.
