In general, the main targets were fiber optic infrastructure, which included cutting optical cables. In this regard, some of the companies that had their facilities damaged were Bouygues Telecom, Free and SFR . These acts of vandalism occurred after three days of coordinated sabotage against the country’s high-speed train service.

Officially, the French Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, Marina Ferrari, made a statement about the incident and condemned the acts, classifying them as “cowardly and irresponsible”. In addition, she stated that the Defense Electronic Communications Center is working with operators to restore services. According to her:

“The damage caused in several departments last night has affected our telecommunications operators. There are localized consequences for access to fiber, fixed telephony and mobile telephony.”

As expected, French customers ended up being affected by the incident, totaling around 11,000 in total. In this case, the sabotage ended up mainly harming subscribers to SFR and Free services.
