The pre-patch for the upcoming WoW expansion, The War Within, will be released on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Although this doesn’t mark the start of the pre-event, features like the Warband will already be active, and many classes will undergo major updates to their talent trees and abilities.

Shamans, in particular, are excited about the significant changes designed to enhance their class and improve gameplay. The question is what will happen to tier sets in the TWW pre-patch. Currently, the bonuses are still active in the pre-patch and even on the beta server for The War Within. However, depending on the class, you’ll need to check whether these bonuses remain useful after the class updates.
Tier Set Bonuses in the Pre-Patch: Some Outstanding, Some Useless
The many class revisions have caused some chaos in balancing, but the current season continues. Many adjustments are linked to hero talents, which will only be unlocked in The War Within or from level 71.
To make sure ambitious players do not feel cheated, the important Mythic Plus and PvP titles for Dragonflight Season 4 were awarded before the pre-patch and cannot be earned afterward.
You need to check whether your set bonuses are still effective. Does the bonus still interact with a talent as intended? Does the talent still exist or does it now have a different function? These are the questions you need to ask yourself. Classes that chose a simple Season 1 set bonus in the vote before Season 4 are in luck.

However, some more recent set bonuses still work with the class revisions. For example, the Demonology Warlock receives the talents Doom and Pact of the Ered’ruin. These two talents are heavily inspired by the Season 4 set bonus, or rather, they are almost exact copies of the popular set bonus. Both the set bonuses and the new talents work together, so Warlocks essentially get a double set bonus.
As mentioned, this creates very specific gameplay, but it’s less important in the pre-patch. If your set bonuses no longer work, you have the chance to wear items with a higher item level. With the release of The War Within on August 22, 2024, the set bonuses should be grayed out or become useless, even if they still work on the beta realm.
