Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 is expected to change the virtual RAM feature on all smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer. The feature has been revamped and will no longer offer the 4 GB option.

As a result, smartphones running HyperOS 2.0 will come with 6 GB of virtual RAM by default, and this feature will be activated automatically on all Xiaomi smartphones.

Additionally, the maximum expansion capacity has increased to 16 GB. This means that some high-end Xiaomi phones could have up to 32 GB of RAM, combining 16 GB of physical RAM with 16 GB of virtual RAM.

Xiaomi has now added a 12 GB RAM option, whereas in HyperOS 1.0, the maximum RAM expansion was only 8 GB.

According to the Chinese manufacturer, virtual RAM uses part of the smartphone’s storage to enhance performance in games and other intensive tasks. The software shifts some background processes to storage, freeing up RAM for primary activities.

This feature has become more common on Android smartphones, and with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, it will be increasingly important since AI requires a lot of RAM for local processing.

Currently, there is no exact release date for HyperOS 2.0, but the list of smartphones that will not receive the software has already been leaked.
