In an interview published this week, Yu Chengdong, chairman of Huawei, said that the launch of proprietary Kirin chips has helped not only the company but also China in dealing with challenges from US sanctions.

According to the executive, launching a high-tech product by Huawei automatically boosts China’s growth. Yu also emphasized that the introduction of proprietary processors “saved” the company from the harm caused by sanctions.

“If a customer uses Huawei products, they are also contributing to the growth and advancement of China’s electronics industry.”

Yu Chengdong also highlighted that users can “drop or disassemble” a Huawei smartphone to see that it is made entirely of 100% Chinese parts.

Using the Pura 70 line as an example, Yu noted that the smartphones in this generation contain 33 parts that are fully developed and produced in China. Huawei aims to achieve a rate of 100% Chinese parts.

However, Yu acknowledges that China is still “behind” in some technologies, such as the 7-nanometer process. He believes this gap can be offset by strong software.

For Yu, HarmonyOS Next will be the key to ensuring that the brand’s smartphones deliver not only excellent performance but also a completely reimagined experience for consumers.
