During her time at the company, she contributed to various aspects of storytelling and franchise development for over two decades. Although she wasn’t directly employed by the World of Warcraft team, Golden significantly contributed to the game by penning numerous screenplays and short stories.

Christie Golden had been a dedicated member of Blizzard for over 25 years, serving on the story and franchise development team for the past six years. Despite not being formally part of the World of Warcraft team, Golden’s impact on the game’s narrative through her written works was substantial.
Christie Golden shared a post expressing her thoughts on a twist of fate and her departure from Blizzard. In her heartfelt message, she revealed the need for a mental break to recuperate. Hence, she expressed her desire to take additional time before providing further commentary on her departure.
The Many Fantastic Works of Christie Golden
Despite her departure, Christie Golden continued to contribute to World of Warcraft both before and during her tenure at Blizzard. Some of Golden’s noteworthy WoW-related works include:
- Crafting the storylines for the majority of the cutscenes in Battle for Azeroth.
- Writing substantial dialogue exchanges between characters Anduin and Sylvanas for the in-game cinematics featured in Shadowlands.
- Creating the screenplay for the short film Afterlife: Maldraxxus.
- Additionally, she lent her voice to the character Sylvanas in certain instances.

Golden’s influence extends beyond storytelling to the creation and design of several notable World of Warcraft characters, including Anduin, Draka, Dagran, and Baine. Teaming up with Chris Metzen, Golden introduced the iconic character Thrall into the fantastical realm of Azeroth. Moreover, she is credited with conceptualizing the two moons in Azeroth and initiating the Kosh’arg festival, elements that have significantly impacted various nations and cultures within the game. Among her extensive contributions are numerous WoW novels, including Sylvanas, Tides of War, Worldquake, Rise of the Horde, Before the Storm, and Blizzard’s inaugural bestselling novel – Arthas.
In addition to her profound involvement in WoW’s narrative, Golden served as a lore consultant for other Blizzard titles. Her storytelling prowess extends to Overwatch, StarCraft, Diablo Immortal, and Hearthstone. Notably, her Overwatch short story “Brick by Brick” received acclaim and garnered an award. With a repertoire of over 50 novels spanning various fantasy and sci-fi universes such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Halo, and Assassin’s Creed, Golden’s literary prowess shines. Despite her success, recent years posed challenges, notably a contentious interaction with the WoW community during Battle for Azeroth, where fan feedback transcended constructive criticism.
