ASUS ZenScreen Fold OLED: The First Foldable OLED Monitor

The ASUS ZenScreen Fold OLED serves as an external monitor. When fully unfolded, the device boasts a 17.3-inch diagonal screen with a 2560 x 1920 resolution, featuring a more square format often appreciated for office tasks. As expected, it sports an OLED panel that, according to ASUS, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and holds VESA Display HDR True Black 500 certification.

This foldable device offers versatile positioning. In horizontal mode, it functions like a standard monitor, swiftly deployable for telecommuting or while waiting for a flight. When fully extended, the monitor measures 9.7 inches in thickness and weighs a mere 1.17 kilograms, seemingly suitable for hassle-free portability in a backpack.

ASUS has implemented a water-drop-shaped hinge. The company claims, “Designed with hundreds of components, this intricate mechanism brings the two sides of the screen closer, nearly eliminating the gap that often plagues foldable devices, making them bulkier than desired.” Additionally, ASUS ensures minimal “wrinkles” and asserts that “you’ll hardly notice there’s a hinge behind the screen.” A hands-on experience will help dispel any doubts.

ASUS Zenbook DUO (2024): The New Dual-Screen Laptop

The second reveal comes in the form of ASUS’s all-screen foldable laptop, the Zenbook DUO. While not entirely new, it’s the second iteration of this device, hence referred to as ASUS Zenbook DUO (2024). According to ASUS, it stands as the “world’s first 14-inch laptop with dual screens and AI technology.”

The laptop hosts two 14-inch OLED screens with 3K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. And what about the keyboard? Dubbed ErgoSense, it’s detachable, features a touchpad, and connects via Bluetooth. The screens adopt a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering a more square display. The hinge allows for up to 180 degrees of tilt, enabling a “single screen” of up to 19.8 inches, albeit with a hinge in the middle. The laptop supports multiple positions, and the interface adapts accordingly.

According to the company, the display is Dolby Vision compatible, Pantone validated, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, holds VESA Display True Black 500 certification, and is, needless to say, touch-sensitive. Moreover, it supports the ASUS Pen with 4,096 pressure points. All this is packed into a body weighing just 1.35 kilograms.

Features

Peeking inside reveals the new Intel Core Ultra processors. The highest-tier configuration integrates the Core Ultra 9H with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Powering all this is a 75Wh battery, claiming a 20% increase in charge cycles over the previous generation, according to ASUS.

Regarding AI, the Intel Core Ultra processors feature Intel’s first integrated NPU, essentially a dedicated engine for all things AI-related. ASUS claims it’s perfect for offloading CPU workloads and offering low-power AI acceleration for modern AI-enabled applications.

Additionally, the laptop features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, an HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The speakers support Dolby Atmos and boast Harman-Kardon certification. As anticipated, connectivity includes WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
