AMD recently launched the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F processors in China, but only to pre-built computer manufacturers. Now, the company appears to be changing its strategy. As discovered by the leaker Hoang Anh Phu on Tuesday (23), these chips may soon be sold in retail stores on the global market.

AMD’s official website began listing the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F with availability on the global market and their respective product numbers: 100-100001590BOX and 100-100001591BOX. As a result, it is possible that they will soon begin to be sold in stores so that consumers can build their own desktops.
The Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F are processors without integrated graphics, so they will be relatively cheaper than, for example, the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8500G.
Despite the absence of the GPU, the Ryzen 7 8700F has a neural processing unit (NPU), which is responsible for executing tasks based on artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, the Ryzen 5 8400F does not have an NPU.
The NPU delivers 16 TOPS computing power, enabling it to handle some generative artificial intelligence tools that do not require significant hardware performance, such as Windows 11’s photo editing tools. Consequently, the new processor can contribute to popularizing the concept of an “AI PC.”

The Ryzen 7 8700F is equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 16 MB L3 cache in its CPU, based on the Zen 4 architecture, manufactured with 4-nanometer lithography from TSMC. The processor clocks up to 5.0 GHz in Boost mode, operating with a configurable TDP between 45 W and 65 W. This model is compatible with the AM5 socket.
The Ryzen 5 8400F features 6 cores, 12 threads, and a 16 MB L3 cache in its CPU, also operating with the same configurable TDP between 45 W and 65 W. The processor has a base clock of 4.2 GHz, with the capability to reach up to 4.7 GHz. Both models support overclocking.
Suggested prices have not yet been released, but it is assumed that both will cost less than their versions with an integrated GPU. The Ryzen 7 8700G is priced at US$329, so one can expect the Ryzen 7 8700F to cost around US$299. The Ryzen 5 8400F could hit the market for approximately US$149.
