With its autumn announcements on September 20th, Amazon shared a series of updates and improvements to its devices and services ecosystem during the Amazon Devices and Services event. One of the most notable announcements is that the Amazon voice assistant, Alexa, will finally be equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, making it more similar to the “ChatGPT” chatbot.
The company states that a large language model will be integrated into the voice assistant. This will enable the activation of the new “Let’s Chat” feature, which emulates the experience provided by “ChatGPT” and offers faster, more realistic, and meaningful communication. Users will be able to engage in seamless conversations with Alexa and ask questions on any topic of interest. However, Alexa’s capabilities don’t stop there. Users will also be able to request various tasks from the voice assistant, such as composing emails.
Another significant enhancement is that Amazon device will be able to adapt its responses based on the user’s conversational style, emotions, jokes, preferences, and more. Improved language learning models will allow the device to remember previous conversations and build upon them for future interactions with the user.
Amazon has not disclosed when the new Alexa version with AI capabilities will be available to users, but they mentioned that free preview options will be available “soon” in the United States.
