New Snapchat Lens Transforms Text Prompts Into AI Creations

Snapchat has introduced a new creative feature that allows users to create and edit photos using simple text messages. The feature is called Imagine Lens. It is live now for Snapchat Plus Platinum and Lens Plus subscribers. The tool lets people type what they want to see and then create a fresh image or modify an existing Snap.

How It Works

Snapchat users open the Lens and type a prompt. The prompt can be short or detailed. The system returns a generated image that the user can tweak. Users can share the new picture to friends or post it to a Story. Snapchat also ships a set of ready made prompts to help people get started. The feature is the first open prompt image creation Lens for Snapchat members who pay for premium tiers.

What users can create

The Lens supports portrait style edits. It can create stylized portraits. It can make small scenes or cartoon panels. It can also turn a user into a fantasy character or place faces into imaginative settings. Snapchat highlights example prompts such as asking to create a comic or to transform a person into an alien. The app then lets users refine or rewrite the prompt in the caption bar until the image looks right.

Why this matters

Snap has led in mobile augmented reality for years. The company has also been investing in on device AI research and generative models. Imagine Lens brings text to image creation directly into the camera experience. This lowers the barrier for casual users to make original images. It also gives creators new ways to prototype content while they are on the phone. The move follows earlier Snapchat releases that added AI video Lenses and other generative effects.

Creation tools and workflow

Snap says that some of its Lenses are built with a mix of in house models and industry leading systems. The company has previously shown research level models that can run creative transformation tasks on mobile hardware. The new Lens appears to draw on that work and on the company’s broader Lens platform. Creators can start with a generated result and then use Snapchat editing tools to apply filters or stickers. The output can be saved or shared like any other Snap.

Safety and moderation

Snap has a history of strong moderation controls for young users on the platform. Imagine Lens sits inside that ecosystem. Snapchat states that Lenses follow its content rules and that moderation systems monitor output. The company also restricts certain Lenses to paid tiers. That adds a layer of gating for what the tool can produce in public streams. Snapchat has urged users to follow platform rules when creating and sharing AI generated media.

How creators can use it

Creators can use Imagine Lens to make concept art. They can sketch characters. They can test visual ideas and then build richer AR Lenses using Lens Studio. Snapchat has also rolled out other tools that let creators turn AI results into publishable AR experiences. This sequence helps shorten the path from idea to in app content.

Where this leads

Snap is solving two problems at once. It is making creative AI easy for everyday users. It is also deepening the toolset for creators who already publish AR content in Lens Studio. The move is consistent with a wider industry trend. Companies are embedding generative features inside consumer products so people can create without needing separate apps. This will keep lenses and short form content fresh on Snapchat.

Meta view and context Snap’s approach mirrors broader shifts across social platforms. The company mixes in house research and selective partnerships to balance speed and control. The new Lens follows prior launches of AI video Lenses and other AR products. The feature will be watched closely by advertisers and by creators. It may also shape how other apps offer native generative tools inside camera experiences.
